A guided introduction to identifying a bottleneck, estimating its business cost and deciding what to change.

Who it helps
Business owners and operations teams trying to choose which workflow to improve first.
What you get
A way to examine one recurring workflow, plus a downloadable companion worksheet to organise your observations.

Start with one piece of work

Choose a workflow you can describe from a recent example. An enquiry, invoice follow-up or internal approval is a more useful starting point than “improve operations”.

  1. Trace one recent example

Write down what started the work, who handled each step, where information moved and what counted as finished.

  2. Find the waiting and repetition

Mark where someone waited, entered the same information again or had to ask who owned the next step.

  3. Estimate the impact

Record time and frequency where you know them. Keep estimates and assumptions visible rather than turning them into precise savings claims.

  4. Choose a small first change

Consider removing or simplifying a step, clarifying a handoff or using automation. Name the decision that still belongs to a person.

  5. Review what changed

Agree who will try the change and how you will check whether it helped.

Keep your notes together

This companion worksheet is a new starting-point aid. The full Harvest Point toolkit is available through its own website.
